The Open Society Concert Series presents outstanding performances of contemporary chamber music in an informal setting, allowing audiences to connect with performers and composers in a relaxed café environment.

The series offers an outlet for performers who would like to give an additional performance of a piece that may otherwise be played only once. It also offers the general public access to contemporary chamber music in an open setting, with pedestrian traffic and the opportunity for drinks and food, attracting a wider cross-section of society than you might find at a typical classical music concert.

It is for this reason that the series' founder, Julie Werntz, decided to call it “Open Society”, because that's what it's about: new music that is not limited to the concert hall, the university, or the conservatory, but new music that is for everyone, performed in a space where it is more readily available to the public and more integrated with people's daily lives.

It is my hope that this will put contemporary music in a new light for everyone involved and that it will help to raise the profile of new music in Boston.
